RAW Memorial Weekend - 1 down, 2 to go
Feb. 18th, 2007 12:15 pmRobert Anton Wilson memorial weekend has officially commenced. At 11pm last night, Discordians from all over joined Discordian.com in offering goods to a large portrait of RAW, goods that we hope he can take into the afterlife. First we offered him drugs: a gigantic joint, and a large mushroom. Then we offered him condoms, because wherever he is, we hope he's getting some (and safely, wouldn't want to die twice!). Lastly, we offered him a laptop so that he can still communicate and write amazing things in the great beyond. Thanks, Bob!
Our ritual's main focus was a papal inauguration. Many of us have Pope cards, but how many of us have had an official inauguration as Pope? About 65, so far. We read from the Principia and blessed the ritual Pope we had made (large dummy in white robes with a mirror for a face) in lieu of directly blessing each person in turn. We slowly showed the Pope around the circle and bade each person look deeply into its eyes to see the prettiest one.
We invested the ritual Pope with the tools of office: golden apple, Pope card, and mitre. We gave smaller versions of these three to everyone: golden apples, Pope cards, and a number of fabulous tiny Pope hats.
Then, because there really is no governor anywhere, we eviscerated the ritual Pope with a short sword, and bade everyone partake of the tasty tasty candy inside - thus taking the Papal essence unto themselves.
All in all, it was a fabulous success! Thank you to everyone who came, everyone who wished to come, and everyone who stayed in their hotel rooms and spent the time coming.
