Dear Mr. Van Derbeken,
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your supportive tone in
relating the sad death of Ruby Rodriguez. In particular, I think it's really
awesome that you used the term "sex worker" instead of something
significantly more demeaning. Not only that, but you chose to quote people
and organizations in your article that are a part of the community that
suffered. That may seem like a minor thing, but it's not. Thank you.
I can only imagine what would have been written about this story had it
happened anywhere else in this country.
I saw the article today, and while the story makes me very sad, the way in
which it was written made me proud of the Chronicle and of San Francisco.
