I read SFGate a lot, and these are a few things that I think are really awesome recently. I'd love to discuss them with others, so feel free to comment on them and discuss.

Artist recreates the Transamerica pyramid out of condom boxes in an effort to raise questions about corporate responsibility regarding the AIDS crisis. Also really interesting is the exhibit the piece is a part of, Corporate Art Expo '07. I really want to go to the artist talks on the 14th if I can.

Exhaustive listing of independent music stores in the bay area. Not interesting if you're not local or visiting, really handy for locals.

Army recruiter is a racist homophobic caricature - and goes on email record with it. I particularly love the phrase "go back to Africa and do your gay voodoo limbo tango and wango dance and jump around and prance and run all over the place half naked there." Yeah. I now really want someone to write the gay voodoo limbo tango and wango song, because that sounds like a pretty good description of my taste in music.

Wikipedia co-founder bails, starts competing site - with "experts." The issues this raises about epistemology and elitism are really interesting. Is a true democracy of information empowering or confusing? Would you use this new site?

SFGate editors ask the readership when (if ever) it's ok for them to delete information. With the searchability of the net, longterm records become a bigger problem. They get requests from people to remove their photos when, say, they've gone into the witness protection program or have stalkers. They also get requests from people who maybe don't want something unflattering to haunt their upcoming political career. At what point should they delete? *ponder* The comments are really interesting, too.

Violet Blue's most recent column is really REALLY good, talking about the sorts of sexual harassment women get through blogging.

This post by [livejournal.com profile] yezida is really right on. It's about receptivity vs. passivity, gender and traditional readings of water. This has given me a lot of food for thought, and I highly recommend it.
