Out of towners arrived today. I've been running errands, cleaning, running people around. This year feels really casual to me. In a good way.

So, KallistiCon is always some mixture of work and play for me. It's at my house, so I do the cleaning and the setting up, the shopping and the cooking. And I like that (except the cleaning, but that's a necessary evil, and sometimes I can delegate). It's just that, well, it's stuff that needs doing that I need to remember to do, and do in a timely fashion. Some years have felt almost all like work, like this was a thing I was doing for my freaks. The past few years have been a lot more chill for me, as we've all mutually gotten the hang of what we're doing and kind of more formally solidified the roles that we need to play. After the first couple of years of logistical mistakes (and subsequent stressiness) on my part, I think we've kind of gotten things to where it's enough work that I feel like I'm doing it right, but not so much that I don't enjoy my own role in the experience.

Anyways, this KallistiCon is really feeling comfortable and good so far, moreso than even the past few years. Maybe it's because things are small this year, or maybe it's because almost everyone is someone I'm at least familiar with, but whatever it is, I'm liking it.

Some years have had kind of a weekend theme, while other years have just been, you know, what it is. We did death and rebirth one year, spent the whole weekend in the liminal otherworld. That was pretty cool. This year I think is about focus and productivity. Getting shit done. Yeah, I know, the very religion for the ADD crowd, focusing on focusing? But it's balance, right? Know when to focus, and when to turn that shit off. If you don't focus at all, you never get to the awesome place where you can turn your brain off and just experience cool stuff, because you're still stuck like eternally mentally waiting for the bus or something. Waiting for things to happen.

This year, we've arrived. It's time to begin.

PS: [livejournal.com profile] johnnybrainwash has been religiously (hah!) documenting his experiences this year through phone posts to his lj. We'll be passing the phone around the con a few times too, so you'll hear a number of voices. If you're not already reading him, you might want to check out these posts.

PPS: Might also want to check out [livejournal.com profile] kallisticon. I'll be sorta blogging here and there, and I imagine a few other people might do the same.
