I don't understand the distinction between "pretty craft" and "art," particularly not in the case of someone who works in large forms like Chihuly. In fact, I find it kind of offensive that this critic gets to decide what's culturally relevant "enough" to count as art. I agree that we (as a culture) look to experts to do that defining for us -- but the museum, in curating the exhibition, calls it art and puts it on display for the public. *They* think it is art, and not "just" craft.

I'll have to think about this some more. Thanks for pointing out the article. And good luck with the moving!
