In Longs today waiting for them to tell me that they couldn't in fact fill my prescription, I flipped through one of those awfully tacky 'gift books' that make a poor rendition of both 'gift' and 'book.' This one was a Christ-centered uplifting advice book for teens about the life that lies ahead of them. I turned to a page on happiness. It said that the authors of the book had asked people who the happiest person they knew was, and why that person was happy. Then they distilled it into seven predictable points that pretty much amounted to: be selfless, work with children (or old people as a sad second choice), laugh a lot, submit yourself to Jesus.
Anyways, though I found the answers a little biased as to the people these authors might know, it did make me wonder about the question. Who is the happiest person you know, and why are they happy?
